Skincare
Hey Everyone!
So on todays blog post I thought I would share with you some of my thoughts about skincare. I was looking at some photos of my from about three years ago and when I saw my skin I was in shock. It baffles me how with just one simple routine, day and night, can take your skin from disgusting to not that bad.
Some history to my skin and my fight with acne.
I started breaking out when I was about 11 years old. I used to get everything from zits, blackheads, whiteheads…I had it all. I remember always picking at my face when I was in junior high as well. Now that I think about it that was probably my biggest regret. I have oily skin but sometimes it can get dry about my mouth and chin area which is weird. I remember thinking that my skin was never going to get better and that i was going to be pizza face forever. I used to GLOB face wash onto my skin because I thought that the more I used….the more it would work. WRONG. Oh and to add to the naive-ness of my younger years…I never used sunscreen or moisturizer because I felt my skin was oily enough.
What have I used?
I used everything on the market from proactive to every brand at walgreens and CVS. I even tried to go to a dermatologist and used to get sulfur masks but those never did anything.
What do you do now?
Well now what I do with my face is completely different. I started using a facial brush that I purchased at Sally’s for about $2. With that I used the Neutrogena Naturals Pore Scrub which has now become my holy grail item in my face routine. It’s so gentle yet effective - especially when combining it with the facial brush.
I also use Philosophy Purity Make Simple for the days I don’t want to wash my face with the scrub or when I am on the go. I tested it with removing makeup and it does wonders. Now I don’t recommend using the facial brush when trying to remove your makeup because I feel that that pushes it into the skin deeper.
Now to moisturize my face I have been flipping between moisturizers because I feel I haven’t found the one for me. At the moment I am using a Clean & Clean Advantage Oil Free Moisturizer which seems to do the trick but I am looking for something with SPF in it.
Final thoughts and recommendations.
I think that the key thing is skin care is repetition and that phase “less is more”. Use something that you feel is right for your skin texture and type. Don’t over use facial cleansers. Find tools that help enhance the products you are using.
