Its my senior year and I an trying to start off right. I plan to do a back to school makeup look for guys and possibly for girls as well.

I have also been breaking out like crazy which is not normal for me but I do blame the weather on this one.

I hope everyone is having an amazing day.

I am doing a wedding this Saturday and I pumped. I have always been my worst critic when it comes to makeup, but this Saturday is going to be kick a**.

I purchased some disposables, sponges, and all that jazz. It surprised me that I was running low on those things so those were essentials that I purchased. I also got about 10 pairs of lashes. (Red Cherry, Miss Adoro, and Creme) It was pretty cool because all the lashes were around a dollar each, which is a steal!

Now after my adventure in the morning, I decided to go to Macy’s with my friend. We were gonna hit up the counters and see what we could find that we didn’t already have. She was so set on purchasing the Mac 208 brush, but then the makeup artist showed her the Mac 210 brush. Let’s just say we got a little carried away…well I did. I am not really looking for a foundation or anything like that but I was kind of interested in the tinted moisturizers. She told me to sit in the chair and started applying things to my face. Now luckily the girl is one of my favorite artists at the counter and I really take into consideration what she tells me.

She started applying this prep+prime base all over my face.

At first I was like great I am going to break out because it has silicone in the base but she explained to me how it helps with my oily skin and it also has an SPF which kills a step in my morning routine.

I never really liked the Mac skin care line but I will say after one day of using it…I kind of like it. I am not going to give a full on review of this project because I haven’t had it for that long, but it has given me a first good impression.

So after applying the base all over my face I told her how I wanted to try the Mac Studio Moister Tint. It’s a tinted moisturizer with SPF. I wanted to because I wanted some coverage on my skin without making it look like I am a guy with foundation on my face. That is one thing that I can’t stand when guys want to have matte faces or their skin looks too flawless. I mean there are those rare guys who have perfect skin but most of us are oily because of testosterone and because we sweat more than girls do. So she applied this all over my face using a Mac 188 brush. (she used the same brush to apply the prep+prime as well)

I was completely sold on the finish and the over all look of my skin. It covers just enough redness without making me look fake. GREAT first impression. I would totally recommend it for guys looking for a good moisturizer.

Overall, I have never received such amazing costumer service like the one I got today. The thing I like about that artist is that she knows that I do makeup so every time I go, even if I don’t purchase anything, she still shows me new things or asks me what my favorite lipstick has been or shadow. I will be doing an updated face routine video soon of Beautylish if you’d like to check it out soon. I plan to upload a haul video with todays things.

Hope everyone is having an awesome day,
-Carlos

Brush Cleanser

There are a lot of different brush cleansers out in the market that range in prices from $3 to about $30+. Some are from an everyday brand that you could get at your local walmart or target and some you can only get at makeup trade shows or online. A brush cleanser that I have been using for about 3 years in the one by Mac Cosmetics. Now I haven’t been using this cleanser only because its Mac but because it has never failed me. I do believe that this product does its job. It cleans, conditions, and when added alcohol…sanitizes.

There are some ups and down about it though. I think that it is reasonably priced for the amount of product you get but the nozzle/packaging is so inconvenient. I learned from a friend of mine who is also a makeup fan to mix half filtered water and half cleanser. The cleanser is supposed to be rinsed out when used but when using for spot cleaning…mixing it with water helps distill the product and help you waste less of it. I found a neat trick to carry my bottle with it still looking professional and sleek.

I used an empty Mac Charged Water bottle from 2007 and added half distilled water and half brush cleanser. It has been my best idea yet because its so easy to travel with and it still looks like a Mac product. I like the snap top bottle spray nozzle that the Mac bottles have and I think that I have now made it my go to spot cleaner.

Go ahead and try it out for yourself and e-mail me your photos.

So on todays blog post I thought I would share with you some of my thoughts about skincare. I was looking at some photos of my from about three years ago and when I saw my skin I was in shock. It baffles me how with just one simple routine, day and night, can take your skin from disgusting to not that bad.

Some history to my skin and my fight with acne.
I started breaking out when I was about 11 years old. I used to get everything from zits, blackheads, whiteheads…I had it all. I remember always picking at my face when I was in junior high as well. Now that I think about it that was probably my biggest regret. I have oily skin but sometimes it can get dry about my mouth and chin area which is weird. I remember thinking that my skin was never going to get better and that i was going to be pizza face forever. I used to GLOB face wash onto my skin because I thought that the more I used….the more it would work. WRONG. Oh and to add to the naive-ness of my younger years…I never used sunscreen or moisturizer because I felt my skin was oily enough.

What have I used?
I used everything on the market from proactive to every brand at walgreens and CVS. I even tried to go to a dermatologist and used to get sulfur masks but those never did anything.

What do you do now?
Well now what I do with my face is completely different. I started using a facial brush that I purchased at Sally’s for about $2. With that I used the Neutrogena Naturals Pore Scrub which has now become my holy grail item in my face routine. It’s so gentle yet effective - especially when combining it with the facial brush.

I also use Philosophy Purity Make Simple for the days I don’t want to wash my face with the scrub or when I am on the go. I tested it with removing makeup and it does wonders. Now I don’t recommend using the facial brush when trying to remove your makeup because I feel that that pushes it into the skin deeper.

Now to moisturize my face I have been flipping between moisturizers because I feel I haven’t found the one for me. At the moment I am using a Clean & Clean Advantage Oil Free Moisturizer which seems to do the trick but I am looking for something with SPF in it.

Final thoughts and recommendations.
I think that the key thing is skin care is repetition and that phase “less is more”. Use something that you feel is right for your skin texture and type. Don’t over use facial cleansers. Find tools that help enhance the products you are using.

As for products:

Philosophy Purity Made Simple
Neutrogena Naturals
Sally’s Facial Cleansing Brush
SPF
